The St. Leonard Class of 1954

St. Leonard Class of 1954

On June 5, 2004, I attended the 50th Reunion of my eighth grade graduation class at St. Leonard Catholic Grammar School in Berwyn, Illinois. It was one of the happiest days of my life.

I hadn't seen most of my classmates since grammar school. There were 39 pupils in our graduating class. Sadly, four of them died in the 1990s. I'm happy to report that 24 of my classmates attended our Reunion.

Because of my knowledge of web design (much of it learned at the Venice Skills Center), I volunteered to build a web site for our class. I left it online until December 2005, when I took it down.

How did everyone look at our Reunion? See for yourself!

In recent years, I have seen three movies that reminded me of my days at St. Leonard: Stolen Summer, Wide Awake, and The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. My favorite book about attending a Catholic grammar school in Chicago is John R. Power's great novel, Do Black Patent Leather Shows Really Reflect Up?: A Fictionalized Memoir.

I've included Amazon ads on this page in case you'd like to purchase any of these for your own enjoyment. They will leave you laughing, and perhaps crying.
