Old Movies
I love watching movies from the 1930s and 1940s. My parents, who were married in 1935, always told me how great the movies
were back then. Now I know they were right!
For the past decade, I have subscribed to Turner Classic Movies (TCM), a cable channel which shows many of the films my
parents enjoyed when they were young. I remember a few that I saw in the late 1940s, when I began going to movies. But most
of the films I have seen have been brand new to me.
TCM and others have restored many of these films (and those from later decades, too) so that we can enjoy them
again today. Watching them on TV will never be the same as watching them on a movie screen, but it is the next best thing,
and you can do it so easily at home.
Big Band Music
I love big band music from the 1940s right through today. This is a passion that began for me when I was young, because
I heard big band music on the radio and on the phonograph in our home when I was growing up. My mother and her two sisters
who lived with us listened to it all of the time in the 1940s. I have the old 78s that one of my aunt's collected back then,
and it is fun to play them every now and then.
